ABOUT US

Oboe Mobile Foundation (OMF) is a non-profit corporation (501c3) founded in 2009 by the visionary Frances Colón, an oboe doctor. Unique in its category, both in Puerto Rico and in the United States, Oboe Mobile Foundation was created with the purpose of offering educational services and programs related to the oboe. For more than a decade, Oboe Mobile Foundation has set a standard of excellence in the field of oboe education and programs, featuring world-renowned and outstanding artists who offer innovative performances and educational experiences to our students and communities. Oboe Mobile Foundation empowers children through its programs, using music education as a vehicle for social change to become productive members of society.

Oboe Mobile Foundation began its services with nine students in its first workshop in 2009. In its early years, it focused on offering the annual workshop while working to establish an oboe bank. Our Oboe Bank provided oboist applicants in Puerto Rico with the use of an instrument, which resulted in more students having the opportunity to learn to play the oboe. Our organization is supported by private donations and proposals. We have been fortunate to have support both locally and globally.

Currently, the Oboe Mobile Foundation carries out several activities, including the innovative Kinder Oboe program for young children and their families, as well as the Oboe Bank established to serve students throughout Puerto Rico by facilitating the use of a high quality oboe. These activities reach out to both young children and adults who have virtually no access to them, providing them with two much needed elements: hope and love, which are part of the caring community created by the Oboe Mobile Foundation.

There is still much work to be done. Oboe Mobile Foundation seeks to take its Kinder Oboe program throughout Puerto Rico and abroad to introduce children to music, the traditional culture of Puerto Rico and to learn about other cultures through various musical activities, such as singing, playing games and exploring different types of music. These activities will help them develop an appreciation for their cultural heritage and a love for music.
